The Spark: A Personal Struggle
Every great brand is born out of a real problem, and DayLife Leather is no exception. Years ago, due to an unexpected incident, my feet became two different sizes—one foot required a size 8 shoe, while the other needed a size 9.
Finding a pair of shoes in the commercial market became an impossible task. For a while, I relied on local artisans to custom-make my footwear, but over time, those skilled craftsmen moved to big factories. Traditional shoemakers vanished from the streets, and out of sheer frustration, I completely stopped wearing shoes. Years passed by as I adapted to this reality.
Innovation Born from Necessity
After completing my Master’s in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University, I entered the corporate world. Suddenly, wearing formal leather shoes was no longer a choice; it was a professional necessity. Faced with the same old struggle of non-existent market sizes, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
Using my knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology, I digitally designed a pair of shoes perfectly tailored to my asymmetrical feet. I cut the soles right at home and took the pieces to a local cobbler to assemble them. When I put them on, they fit perfectly. I had solved my own problem.
From a Global Gift to Our First Customer
Not long after, while scrolling through YouTube, I came across a reel that changed everything. A young girl from New Zealand was crying on screen; standing at 6’9″ feet tall, she faced the exact same painful struggle I once did. Finding premium shoes or proportionally sized handbags in the standard retail market was a nightmare for her.
Deeply moved by her story, I reached out to her. I designed, crafted, and sent her a custom-made pair of shoes and a matching handbag as a personal gift. The joy it brought her was priceless. Unwittingly, she became my very first international customer, and I realized that millions of people worldwide were suffering silently because mass-market brands refused to cater to individuality.
The Rise of DayLife Leather on Etsy
Driven by this purpose, I officially launched our store on Etsy.com, under the brand DayLife Leather. The response was overwhelming. The marketplace was filled with people looking for bespoke shoes, high-fashion heels, and custom bags. Some came to my shop out of sheer necessity because the world didn’t make their size; others came out of a passion for luxury gifting and unique, engraved personal keepsakes.
