Every meaningful brand begins with a real problem. For our founder, Sujeet Kushwaha, that problem was personal. After an accident, one foot grew larger than the other — a size 8 on one side, a size 9 on the other.

A matched pair built for two different sizes simply didn’t exist on the market. For years, he went without shoes that actually fit — until college ended and stepping into the professional world made it unavoidable. Wearing proper shoes stopped being optional; it became a quiet, daily necessity. That pressure is what eventually pushed him to stop waiting for a solution and start building one himself.

Sujeet holds an M.A. and M.Sc from Banaras Hindu University and spent years in the corporate world before deciding that if the market wouldn’t build a solution, he would.

Blending his background in artificial intelligence with digital design, he engineered a shoe tailored precisely to his own measurements — cutting the soles at home and working alongside a local cobbler to bring it to life. For the first time in years, he felt what a perfect fit actually meant.

The turn from personal fix to global brand came through a moment of empathy. Scrolling through Instagram one evening, Sujeet came across a reel from a young woman in New Zealand, of unusually tall stature, who couldn’t find shoes in her size anywhere.

He messaged her directly. They talked, and she sent over photos of her foot measurements along with her address. What he sent back was the first pair he’d ever custom-made for someone else — sized and heeled entirely to her.

It was also the first time he’d shipped anything out of India. GST, customs paperwork, India Post, an IEC certificate — all of it was new, and all of it had to be figured out from scratch. When the package finally reached her, she was overjoyed, and she paid him for it. That was the moment it clicked: helping people fit into their own lives could actually be a livelihood. DayLife Leather’s professional journey started right there.

What began as a mission on Etsy quickly became a movement. People weren’t only looking for leather — they were looking for individuality: a medical need, an uncommon body type, or simply the desire for a considered, personal luxury.
